Mason Road Sidewalk Project

Perinton, NY

Mason Road is primarily residential and provides a vital link in the Town of Perinton between NY Route 31 and Ayrault Road to Fairport High School and also the Lyndon Road bridge. Pedestrians navigated a mix of existing concrete and asphalt sidewalks and a four foot wide road shoulder prior to the safety improvement project. The Town of Perinton is widely recognized as “Trail Town USA” and developed a Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan that assessed the existing pedestrian and bicycling facilities and provided recommendations for improvements. One of the Plan’s recommendations was to fill the gap on Mason Road between Conover Crossing and Ayrault Road that would provide connectivity to surrounding neighborhoods, school and trails and greatly increase pedestrian safety.

As the Prime Consultant for this Locally Administered Federal Aid project, Lu provided professional Phase I-VI design services. During the preliminary design
phase, Lu performed the necessary environmental screenings and permit applications, began utility coordination, prepared initial designs and facilitated public participation meetings. During the final design stage, Lu advanced the preliminary plans to a construction ready bid set, developed a complete set of contract documents utilizing NYSDOT specifications, and prepared the Construction Management Plan. The scope of work included design of 5200 linear feet of new, five foot wide ADA compliant sidewalk from Ayrault Road to NYS Route 31, ADA compliant ramps, pavement markings, and advanced warning vehicular traffic signage. Additionally, the project included the design and installation of a retaining wall, drainage improvements and the design and construction of a new sanitary sewer.

Lu Engineers also provided inspection during the construction phase.
