Lu Engineers provided professional engineering designs for Jefferson County, NY, on a bundle of projects under the umbrella of the Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative (REDI) program. The three projects were located along Jefferson County’s Lake Ontario waterfront with a total estimated construction cost of $7.5M. Specific project locations were as follows:
- County Route (CR) 57: The goal of this project was to raise the roadway profile and harden the shoreline between the mainland and Point Peninsula. CR57 was the only access to Point Peninsula, making it a critical thoroughfare for residents. This project included a culvert crossing to protect the threatened Blanding’s Turtle, providing this semi-aquatic species with a pathway to Lake Ontario without the need to cross the highway.
- County Route (CR) 6: This project included roadway resurfacing, shoulder pavement and shoreline hardening along selected sections of CR6 between Cape Vincent and Tibbett’s Point Lighthouse along the shoreline at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River.
- County Route (CR) 125: This project included roadway resurfacing, roadway reconstruction, shoulder paving and shoreline hardening along select portions of CR125 along the shoreline of Point Salubrious. The project featured approximately 425’ of Redi-Rock retaining wall installation along a section of escarpment above the lake shoreline on the north shore of the Point.
