Lu Engineers, in creative collaboration with JKLA Studio, prepared designs, including structural design calculations, for two creekside amphitheaters as part of a project to improve access and utilization of two of Gowanda, NY’s parks located along Cattaraugus Creek, namely Gateway Park and Creekside Park. These amphitheaters are both open air venues that offer park patrons the opportunity to sit and enjoy the outdoors or access the creek banks and water for recreation. The Gateway Park amphitheater provides Americans with Disabilities (ADA) access to the stream bed and a stage area to accommodate space for programming concerts, theater, educational, and similar events using Cattaraugus Creek as a natural backdrop. This project also involved underpinning of existing concrete retaining walls with shotcrete and the construction of several, new cast in place concrete retaining walls.
